Martha has a fantastic talent — she sings beautifully. Unfortunately, no one close to her truly appreciates it. Despite the resistance of the adults around her, she decides to make use of her treasure — her voice. But how and where can she do that? Is there a place in the world where one can captivate others with their voice?

This is a story not only about an ambitious and determined little girl who refuses to let her self-worth be crushed, but also about the human voice and opera. It aims to familiarize young audiences with the operatic tradition. The story showcases various ways the human voice can be used and demonstrates that contemporary opera embraces many vocal techniques. The creators play with musical styles — from Baroque to rap and beatbox.

The protagonist is a little girl named Martha, who wants to sing but nowhere can she fulfill her dream — either she is chased away by adults or ends up in the wrong places, like a circus. All her adventures are imaginatively presented by director Jerzy Snakowski […] The music, composed by Rafał Kłoczko for piano and a set of percussion instruments, is accessible and cleverly crafted. It contains a bit of musical theatre, gentle rap and beatboxing, as well as plenty of humorously woven-in quotations from Mozart, Rossini, and Verdi… In the finale, Marta reaches the opera house and fulfills her dream by performing the famous aria “Der Hölle Rache” from Mozart’s Queen of the Night. Gifted with a coloratura soprano voice, the young Teresa Marut proves that she feels at home not only in musical theatre but also in the grand operatic repertoire… Lasting just under an hour, the production I Want to Sing… but Nowhere to Do It is an excellent offering for children in the lower grades of primary school — and such shows are rare these days…
