The story takes place at the Turkish court of the mighty Bassa Selim\, where a Spanish nobleman\, Belmonte\, comes to find his fiancée\, Konstanze\, kidnapped by pirates. Servants Blonde and Pedrillo also take part in the escape\, and they primary task is to defeat Osmin – a dangerous guardian of the Seraglio. \nMozart’s set design\, costumes and music are filled with a colourful Orient\, especially the Turkish culture\, which was popular back then in Vienna\, where the composer lived. Mozart\, like the Viennese\, enjoyed the Turkish market and goods from Turkey: coffee\, dried fruit\, clothes; and in music he liked to stylize Turkish music\, as in the famous A Turkish March from the piano sonata. Perhaps that is why one of the characters of his other “oriental” opera said: not only Europe\, but also Asia can bring noble souls.
