The production is inspired by Mozart’s singspiel Der Schauspieldirektor (The Impresario)\, written exactly 240 years ago and considered one of the most surprising and forward-thinking theatrical experiments of its time. \nThe creators have relocated the action to the world of Italian cinema in the 1950s and 1960s—the era of Fellini\, Cinecittà\, and legendary screen stars. Within the bustling atmosphere of a famous film studio\, preparations are underway to cast a new production. Directors\, opera singers\, dramatic actors\, celebrities\, producers\, and aspiring stars gather for an endless audition process where ambition collides with insecurity\, comedy with emotion\, and artistic aspirations with harsh financial realities. \nThe performance reveals the backstage world of theatre and film—a realm of intense emotions\, rivalry\, artistic dreams\, and absurd situations that have remained remarkably relevant throughout the centuries. How does one win a role? How can art be financed? How can personal ambition be reconciled with audience expectations? And is it still possible for an artist to create purely from the heart? These are the questions Mozart’s comedy raises with exceptional wit and irony. \nThe production brings together two artistic worlds: dramatic actors and opera singers. This unique fusion\, already present in the eighteenth-century original\, forms the core of Jakub Przebindowski’s contemporary adaptation. The stage features both comic dialogue and Mozart’s virtuosic arias\, performed in Italian. Alongside the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, audiences will also hear popular Italian songs by Marino Marini\, creating the atmosphere of sunny Italy and the golden age of cinema. \nThe Theatre Director is a performance about artists\, but above all about people—funny\, moving\, imperfect\, sometimes grotesque\, yet always authentic. It is a story about the need to create\, the desire to be seen\, and the magic of the stage\, which allows time to stand still\, if only for a moment.
